About Supplier
Back in 1973 Underwriters Laboratories heard about one of our mechanical engineer’s design reputation and approached us to develop a product that would test the sharp edges of manufactured products for safety in handling. Everything from appliances to electronics to metal fabricated parts, etc., has the potential to be dangerous if rough edges are not tested for sharpness.
They wanted a device that could simulate the human skin and a way to assert just enough pressure to tell if a manufactured product would cut this “skin” with average use and normal handling.
Our founder, an engineer, invented and built the Sharp Edge Tester Model SET-50™. The Sharp Edge Tester Model SET-50™ meets Underwriters Laboratories U.L. Standard 1439 for “Determination of Sharpness of Edges”.
Technical Engineering Service also invented the Tape Cap, part of the Tape Cap Kit Model TC-3™. The Tape Cap was designed so that the customer did not have to install three different layers of tape on the tool prior to testing each individual item. Instead, he invented a pre-assembled tape cap containing 3 layers and a center guideline on a plastic cap. The tape cap is designed to test for sharp edges and simulates the layers of skin on a finger.
Over the years, the Sharp Edge Tester Model SET-50™ has been continually refined from both a manufacturing and user standpoint. When you use the Sharp Edge Tester Model SET-50™, you comply with the international standards set by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
