Description
Ultrasonic welds are produced by high frequency vibratory energy.
One piece of metal is held stationary. The other is vibrated under pressure by a 20kHz or 30kHz ultrasonic tool. This “scrubbing action” produces a precisely controlled friction weld.
The oscillating shear stress and mixing at the weld interface disrupts surface oxides and permits pure metal to metal contact, proucing a metallurgical bond between similar or dissimilar metals without melting or annealing.
