We manufacture resilient polyethylene foam buoy bodies in a wide range of diameters and nett buoyancies. The buoy bodies can be supplied on their own or with the addition of relevant marker or navigation equipment, for example beacons, solar powered or dry cell batteries, radar reflectors etc.
Although typically ranging from 1 to 5 metres in diameter, we will manufacture precisely to client specifications when required.
We produce marker buoys with the whole flotation core manufactured from resilient, closed cell, polyethylene foam. The foam is thermolaminated around internal steelwork and encapsulated within a tough, abrasion resistant, polyurethane elastomer skin.
Using polyethylene for the core rather than conventionally used polyurethane ensures that even if the skin is punctured, the buoy will not sink as it will not absorb water. This extends the lifespan of the buoy and significantly reduces maintenance costs. The material is also highly resistant to impact making the buoys self fendering.
Polyurethane elastomer is self coloured and does not attract marine growth. It is durable, flexible and resistant to both abrasion and ultra-violet degradation. In extreme operating conditions, the skin can be further strengthened with the use of a suitable reinforcement.
Features
Size: Dia x height (metres) | Weight in Air (kg) | Buoyancy (kg) |
1.0 x 1.0 | 150 | 170 |
1.5 x 1.0 | 295 | 495 |
2.0 x 1.0 | 460 | 77 |
2.5 x 1.0 | 750 | 890 |
3.0 x 1.5 | 1370 | 2900 |
4.0 x 2.0 | 2900 | 8200 |
Our navigation and marker buoys typically replace heavy and cumbersome steel buoys. They are lifted on site using smaller maintenance vessels, they are highly stable and can also be used in shallow water.
